As this is in Dutch, I’ll try to explain what they’re discussing, although the title gives some of it away.
Basically, what this Midas Dekkers (He’s a Dutch author) is saying, is that Darwin is his one and only hero, as he explained his theory so well, and well, he agrees with what Darwin has to say.
After a short explanation as to how well Darwin’s theory was accepted in his time, Midas Dekkers talks about how people think; “Oh, this is all so beautiful, this must’ve been created by a higher power, there’s no other explanation!” Where as Darwin says; “Bugger that, everything consists out of smaller things, and those smaller things consist of even smaller things and so on” But, Midas isn’t finished.
Near the end he says; “No, no, it’s impossible what Darwin is saying!” they say. “We’d rather believe in a guy with a long white beard” Which, really, is true.
People like the magical and beautiful side of things, not the truth. It’s an example of not wanting to realize that not everything has a higher source. Some things can be proven in such a way that, really, you can’t say otherwise. Or well, you can, and it’s not necessarily wrong to do so, but it’s just that completely denying it is sort of delusional. My opinion is, it’s better to keep an open mind about things, rather than believing what you want to believe.
It’s always nice to keep an open mind, and I’m not saying that I’m biased, or taking sides but honestly… there is a reason why it’s called THE THEORY of Evolution. Trust me, I’m as open mind as it gets, and though Darwin’s theory was revolutionary.. there are several other theories that counters his. You should search them up if you’re a science freak, if you don’t know them already. And before you say “we” try to keep in mind the rest of the world isn’t Dutch. I hate dutch, I am dutch and I have never lived here till now… I’m only here for 1 year of my study and I plan to never come back. People really hibernate in their homes here (not entirely their fault). I’d like to go back to Dubai, what I consider my home, or Singapore; where my family is living at the moment. People there seem much more open minded with certain things. International people that is; expads.
