From the Archive Follow Up of the Day: Doctors at a Moscow hospital did all they could, but it was not enough to save the life of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl winger Alexander Galimov. Galimov, the only member of the Russian hockey team to survive the Yak-Service plane crash that killed 26 of his teammates, succumbed to his burns early this morning, raising the total number of fatalities to 44. The 26-year-old forward, a member of Russia’s national ice hockey team, played right wing for Lokomotiv since joining the team in 2004. KHL president Alexander Medvedev has made the rebuilding of Lokomotiv a top priority, calling for a disaster draft to shore up promoted youth team players with volunteers from other league teams. Galimov’s death leaves flight crew member Aleksandr Sizov as the crash’s sole survivor.
